2 CB Ensuite Shower Room

The brief

An Initial Consultation with these clients, revealed a desire to find a way for the family home to reflect their bohemian tastes, have striking elements and remain elegant.

We began a process of spatial planning and provided both 2d & 3d images for 3 bathrooms and a laundry room.

The Master Ensuite has a unique and stunning view from the shower of the ocean and Rangitoto Island. The natural inclination would be to have nothing detract from the view
and work with a neutral palette. My proposal was to create a dramatic shower area, that encased and enveloped while framing the spectacular view.

There was also a tall order to respect. No marble or stone tiles. How to create texture and interest without these classics?
These clients contacted Cathryn directly as they knew her interior design talent and wanted direction and guidance for the best use of their renovation budget, with the intention to sell their apartment.

The apartment layout was sound but more could be done to highlight the high ceilings and the potential for light.
We provided concept designs with 2d & 3d images we could convey the benefits of renovating the kitchen to improve the functionality along with the aesthetics.

Working with the kitchen design and build company, we were able to direct the design ideas and recommend the finishes. Our focus was to keep things on budget, yet inject some luxury to make the home attractive to sophisticated buyers.

We selected simple white benchtops and injected texture and glamour by using marble tiles in the splash-back. Our advice was to use restraint when using the contemporary, yet more expensive fluted panels and placing them under the counter and in direct view from the living space.

The finer details make all the difference. By installing simple white round handles in most areas, they blend with the cupboards allowing the luxury items to feature. The textured large-scale handles and the velvet like finish on the tap are just enough.
By replacing the two different floorings with a contemporary warm oak wood floor throughout the living areas, the dimensions of the space were revealed and the tone set for
a cohesive interior.

Paint colours were recommended and we provided carpet samples and suppliers who had stock and could install within the client’s deadline.

The final flourish was to replace the heavy dark drapes with soft white blinds and curtains, using a cost-effective fabric with a subtle textured stripe.

The clean lines, warm neutrals and moments of luxury transformed this apartment into a light-filled and elegant home to suit the widest range of potential buyers.

The method

The design process is a case of getting the layout right, then allowing space for things to change and evolve when looking at the materials and these clients fully invested in the discussions and there were many visits to the tile shops and palettes put together.

The front runner for the shower tile became this dramatic dark emerald green with subtle copper tones. Now that we had the “hero” piece, we could get to work on resolving the rest of the scheme.

Putting together 4 tiles in one bathroom, is not for the feint hearted and these clients challenged the thinking and crucially, also listened. Scale of tile, grout colour, the vanity finishes, lighting and tapware are selected as a whole.

The result

Connecting this client with our bathroom renovation specialist meant that they got the right professionals and trusted trades, who were also grateful that all tiles and overall scheme was selected before work began.

The result is magical.
